biography

Robert Curtis grew up in Louisa County, Virginia where his parents owned and operated a small but thriving country store. Shortly after his high school graduation, Robert borrowed a camera from the town's only working photographer and enrolled in a basic photography class at a local college. Within a month he landed a part-time job with this same photographer, assisting him in his wedding and portrait work.

Robert went on to earn a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in photography from The Maryland Institute, College of Art, in Baltimore, under the mentorship of Richard Kirstel. It was here, studying sequential imagery and the inherent theatrical nature of photography, that he first developed his passion for portraiture and journalism. While working as a freelance photographer and part-time photo teacher at Garrison Forest School, a private girls' school in Baltimore, he was accepted into the prestigious New York University Graduate Film program, where he earned a Master of Fine Arts degree in film production from the Tisch School of the Arts.

Having freelanced extensively in both photography and video, Robert's skills in visual media have been informed and enriched by experience in a wide range of diverse fields, including advertising, journalism, music, fashion, corporate communications, network and cable television, and through his work with private clients.

Robert is based in Westchester County, New York.
